Buffalo Southern Railroad Track Improvement Project

JM Davidson Engineering, D.P.C. (JMD) was subcontracted by CHA Consulting for railroad construction management services during the Buffalo Southern Railroad Track Improvement Project from MP 2.74 to MP 33.0 in Erie County, NY.  The project, administered by the Erie County Industrial Development Agency (ECIDA) and funded by NYS Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), was designed to completely rehabilitate approximately 160,000 linear feet of deteriorated track.  

JMD served as the resident construction inspector for the project and provided construction administration support for the railroad track improvements, including the rail replacement, turnout rehabilitation, and replacement of 10,800 timber ties and 9,100 tons of ballast.

JMD inspection staff was responsible for:

  • Monitoring the contractor daily for progress, workmanship, and conformance with the contract documents
  • Inspection of timber ties for dimension conformance with contract requirements
  • Review of existing track infrastructure during construction to adjust the tie replacement plan and correct any track safety deficiencies identified
  • Completing project reporting in accordance with NYSDOT MURK format
  • Review and verification of contractor’s progress payment requests
